The eThekwini Municipality has resumed its services following temporary closure due to vandalism and theft, on Tuesday.
This comes after the Bester, north of Durban, customer service centre was vandalised on Sunday, the Municipality said in a Facebook post.
In a press statement sent to Iziko, the Municipality said a group of unidentified people threatened security guards with guns at the centre and made off with undisclosed number of computers.
“On Sunday morning at around 4am, guards at the centre were held at gun point by a group of unknown assailants. The perpetrators made off with computers,” the statement reads.
However, the Municipality said the centre has since reopened for face-to-face queries and electricity application can be submitted but will not be immediately processed as the centre is currently without electricity equipment.
“We are pleased to announce that the Bester Customer Service Centre has resumed service following temporary closure due to vandalism and theft,” the statement adds.
With regards to stolen electricity equipment, the Municipality said the matter is being investigated by law enforcement.
“We ask that those with information that will help authorities track down these criminals call our Metro Police Unit on 031 361 0000 or alternatively call the SAPS on 10111,” the Municipality concluded.
