eThekwini Municipality has announced that it is conducting a planned maintenance outage, which would affect many parts of INK, on Thursday.

Inanda Ntuzuma and KwaMashu (INK) circle, which falls under Durban is expected to bear the brunt of an 8-hour planned power cut on 19 August, said eThekwini Municipality.

In a Facebook post, a week ahead of planned power disruption, eThekwini Municipality said residents should be prepared for the power disturbance.

“Ntuzuma residents are advised that eThekwini Municipality will conduct a planned maintenance outage on 19 August,” the post reads.

The Municipality said that many areas of INK would be affected such as Inanda (Glebe), KwaMashu (H and M sections) and Ntuzuma section (A, B, E & G).

“These area (sic) will be without electricity between 8am and 4pm,” the post adds.

The Municipality further said they apologised for the inconvenience caused.

Speaking to Journalism Iziko, Ntuzuma E bakery owner Ndumiso Ndimande weighed in on the forthcoming power cut, saying his business would be halted since they do not have generators.

“We will be highly affected by this power cut. Usually, we have more than 15 regular orders per day, buying our cakes in bulk (in 10 litres). Sadly, my business will be not functioning due to unavailability of generators,” said stress-looking Ndimande.

Ndimande added that the planned power outage would worsen the dire situation that has been caused by civil unrest, since his business was closed.

Meanwhile, Eskom said no loadshedding is expected but the power utility has urged citizens to constantly cut down on household energy consumption as many people work from home.

Eskom tweeted on its account

“Our power system is under severe pressure. Please switch off all unnecessary lights, your geysers, pool pump, and non-essential appliances,” Eskom wrote on Twitter.
