Well-known Ukhozi FM traffic reporter Ayanda Msweli has proven that hard work pays off!
Known mononymously as “Ingwenya” Msweli has been lauded for his hardworking on the road by collective motor companies including Ford and Hyundai.
Chief operations officer in Ford, Scelo Nyandeni said they have been inspired about the “good” that Msweli does for the community at large and decided to give him a sponsorship.
“We might have given this vehicle to a popular radio DJ, but deep down on our hearts (we) have seen Ayanda what he does for poor of the poorest people in our country. We thank you for what you do for the community,” an excited Nyandeni said.
Apart from traffic reporting duties, Msweli helps disadvantaged communities where he goes to the ground collecting social issues such as poverty and unhealthy living conditions, among other things.
Furthermore, after he visits informal settlement residents, he then takes it upon himself and confronts a government department that relates to those concerns or issues.
In a video posted on Facebook, Msweli said he is inspired by the spirit of ubuntu that is why he goes extra miles in assisting unprivileged communities where he can.
“I’m employed by the South African Broadcasting Commission (SABC) under Ukhozi FM as a traffic reporter. But I’ve taken upon my shoulders that platform is very big for only traffic reports, so you have to interfere and intervene where you can.
“I receive calls from residents who are living in an unhealthy condition, telling me about their struggles or issues then I would take pictures and direct those issues to the particular department which I think would intervene,” Msweli said.
Msweli added that he decided to add other initiatives such as the Gender-based violence (GBV) in public transport, wars in taxi industry, trucking and helping sex workers.
“As we speak now, I am writing a book about GBV in public transport and issues surrounding taxi industry. I have no word to describe how I am feeling now, but all in all I thank you,” a humble Msweli said after being gifted with a Ford Ranger wildtrack.
