SANDF calls widespread recruitment adverts ‘fake’ and ‘embarrassing’

While scammers are using country’s enormous unemployment rates as advantage, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has distanced itself from the circulating recruitment adverts, calling it “fake and embarrassing”.

This, after widespread advertisements on social media urging people to apply for the army training, which was said to done by the successful applicants, in March.

Furthermore, the adverts are offering people stipends, free accommodation, and free applications to join the military.

However, in a statement released by SANDF on Saturday, the Communications Director, Brig. Gen. Andries Mokoena Mahapa lamented the recruitment advert labelling it “unrelenting criminal act”.

“The SANDF wishes to warn unsuspecting youths not to engage with the scammers on the online link provided in the advert. It is not a recognised or legitimate SANDF online platform,” reads the statement.

Mahapa also clarified that the Army has its official social media website which is www.dod.mil.za, where they announce recruitment dates and provide legitimate application forms.

In addition, in an interview with television news channel, Mahapa cautioned people to be aware of the recruitment adverts because there are “fake”.

“It is embarrassing for people to go and do such an evil thing. The SANDF is really distancing themselves with regards to this issue, it’s really unacceptable,” Mahapa said.

The Army is appealing to the people who may have knowledge of this illegal job offering to report their location, names and activities to their nearest military establishment or law enforcement agencies, under the condition of anonymity.
